CHOP

From left to center, CHOP determines grain size, up to 250ms.

In most cases, short grains produce more of a gradual or textural effect, while longer grains produce stepped changes in delay, pitch, etc.

FREEZE
Turning the knob past noon will activate an adjustable ‘FREEZE’, which holds a sample in the delay buffer. The knob position sets an amplitude threshold—new audio will rewrite the sample if its level exceeds the chosen threshold, but when the input level drops below this threshold, the “playhead” reads from the delay buffer instead.

Put another way: louder notes (or the attack of each note) will get caught and repeated, while softer notes (or the decay of a note) will be ignored.

When CHOP is fully clockwise, whatever has been caught in the buffer loops indefinitely. Changing modes or switching to bypass will not erase the loop; turn the knob back past the freeze line to return to normal playback.
